Experiment 20
Hypothesis:
Happiness comes in fantastic spurts
And then evaporates away.
Shall I fellate stagnancy
And hope to slow
The coming of decay?
(I just want one grain
Of genuine salt
in the weighing boat
on the side
Of my illusion).
Two questions:
How can a person
Use sheer curtains
As a symbol
Of the strength
Of his or her argument?
Does betrayal,
Like an inoculation,
Sting less if its receiver
Does not see the needle
Before it pierces his skin?
Procedure:
Subject A
And subject B
Go out to dine
At a restaurant
That is overpriced.
Subject B pays;
They try and do
More datelike things
To hold off the inevitable
So they don't feel trashy.
But soon, subject B
Arrives with subject A
At the home of subject A,
And they "watch a movie",
Often used as an excuse
For curling up too closely
On a comfortable apparatus.
They fornicate and wake up
Blissful but confused
But slaves to a schedule.
This scenario is repeated,
24 hours later. Subject B,
however, does not leave
Right off then; subject B
Is off work today.
The two enjoy coffee
And try and turn
48 hours of calculation
Into poetry.
Subject B leaves.
The next 72 hours
Are littered with shards
Of the first 48;
subject A visits subject B,
Who visits subject A as well.
The bottom line is that
The "magic" of the first time
Is never recaptured.
Among the possible reasons
Are the youth of subject B,
Subject A and the former
Subject B and their
Falling out. Subject A
Cries on Subject B's
Shoulder about the latter,
Citing the sheer canopy
Of the bed the lie on
As evidence
In a claim of assumed
Permanence of their
Relationship. Subject B
Coerces subject A
Into further sexual relations,
In hope of coercing
The reemergence of feelings.
Subject A offers to buy
Subject B dinner.
This happens,
And subject A
Is truthful with subject B,
Citing irreconcilable
Differences and calling
It a week. Subject
B is devestated.
They move on.
Data:
Subject A spent $100
on Subject B, who spent
Around $35. Exactly
One week has passed.
Zero distance has been
Traversed. (As said before)
Subject B is devestated.
Subject A is but
Will never admit it.
They never speak again.
Conclusion:
Sometimes truths are better left unsaid.
